iPhone 4: Apple relaunches the race

After the Google I/O conference in early may 2010 (Android "Froyo" 2.2 release) and the Gizmodo case, some people were quite skeptical about how Apple could once again cause a stir. Finally, as they claimed it themselves, Apple has just changed everything again with its new iPhone 4. The new piece of jewellery designed in Cupertino comes with very impressive innovations (retina display, ultra slim design, pentaband connectivity, front camera, HD video recording, powerful processor) which should reinforce Apple leadership. Except some technical issues, the Steve jobs keynote was totally successful and has reached its goals, making the iPhone 4 the new "must have" of the highly competitive smartphone market.
Personnally, I don't think I will be among the iPhone 4 early adopters, but as with the iPad it will be very difficult to resist the temptation. Given I plan to live abroad next year, I hope to earn enough money before I leave to offer an iPhone 4 to some relatives or any devices with FaceTime built-in. Though some can consider the Apple commercials talking up the benefits of FaceTime are a bit too namby-pamby, I think they quite efficient and will make mass market customers forget all the previous attempts to make more affordable video conferencing through mobile phones. Apple doesn't really invent totally new concepts but they know how to take up an idea and make it better than their competitors.
The iPhone 4 will meet with succes. There is no doubt. The new version of the Apple best-seller will also probably cannibalize the iPad sales. Indeed, the iPhone 4 has just brought a series of innovations that will surely be included in the next iPad revision (FaceTime, Retina display, iMovie). Apple future seems great, and Steve Jobs has just kicked things up a notch. Good news for us, customers.
